I bought these to add to my GMRS equipment. Programming is simple enough with software available from Retevis website.
Be aware that you should check the frequencies before you transmit. Mine arrived with 70cm Ham channels. Not a problem if you are licensed but could lead to trouble if you are not.
Excellent radios could not have asked for better quality, ordered the mic and it works great with the radio. Great radio for a great price
Very limited urban range. 1/2 at best in our testing. The channel changing chime is unnecessary and lends to poor noise discipline in use and a home security tool. Very irritating is the provided belt clips that so not attach. They do jot attach because instead of removable screws, the batteries came with permanent rivets where the clips would be attached. Scrapped after a week.
Complete crap! Lucky to get one-mile reception. DO NOT BUY THESE!!
I work as good as you would expect them to. It is the better quality at a reasonable price.

Dislike: screws for clip too small for me to see/also wished I would have purchased the warranty
I bought the upgraded antenna (Ailunce Two Way Radio Antenna Dual Band SMA-F VHF UHF 136-174/400-480MHz Compatible with Ailunce HD1 Retevis RT29 Walkie Talkies (1 Pack)).
With this installed I was able to communicate with my girlfriend out to 2.2 miles from my apartment through buildings (signal went completely dark after that point - used google maps to get the distance). Not too bad of a range considering most other brands only go out a mile. I was hoping for more range but they beat my initial expectations so happy with them.
Angela (Retivis Contact) was wonderful! Knowledgeable and quick to respond!
Radios, are easy to program with additional programming cable.
Construction is decent, not sure it would be military grade, but better than Baofeng radios we purchased years ago.
I would only mention two dislikes:
1- I would have like to have seen a better system to secure the battery. Something that would buckle the battery in place better.
2- I wish this radio would have taken advantage of both UHF AND VHF, as opposed to just UHF.
Other than these two things, the radios seem great! Can’t wait to get use of them and update the review as required.
