I purchased this to use with my Kenwood TH-D74 so that I could use stereo headphones to listen to my radio. I did not get it to use a headset with mic. It works for this, but BE AWARE: it is wired to use a four conductor headset. If you simply plug stereo headphones into it, it will short the transmit line and put the radio into transmit. If I plug in iPhone headphones (which include a mic), it works fine; I get good audio out of both ears and no transmit issue. I believe that this can be remedied if you get a CTIA to OMTP adapter so that the PTT line is not shorted out. I have one of those adapters on order to try right now. All in all, it does what it says. I bought it for a slightly different purpose than intended, so I'm not upset.
EDIT: That adapter did not work. Your best choice to use it like I wanted to is to buy a headset splitter adapter (splits into mic and headphone separately) or make your own adapter. Again, not a knock on the adapter as its not meant to do this, but thought some others might want to know!
Exactly as expected with one exception. First off, if you have a Baofeng UV-5 series radio and TRRS connector for headset with a mic it will work, it will not work with TRS (3 conductor with no mic) since it will key the radio while the headset it plugged in. Additionally, and this is something I'm continuing to track, it creates a ground loop on some radios (Baofeng UV-5 series) which cause the gain input for the signal to increase to the point of saturation. This is usually when there are more powerful radios around but I was hoping to use these as an inexpensive way to monitor radio traffic in busy areas but this doesn't seem to be the case. For me to get any headset to work with the radios, I have to make it myself. This is more of a limitation with the radio but this would be a very common use for this adapter.
I tried it on a Chinese handheld radio made by Retevis. (A great little 16 channel radio with totally programmable 400mhz frequencies, CTCSS and DTS, supporting repeater offsets.)
HOWEVER, it did not work on that very well, the Retevis thought the transmit button on the earbud was being pressed long after it was released. I have Boafeng radios too, so I will keep this for use on those (I have not tested it in them either.)
I thought it could be used to convert from that Kenwood/(Chinese)Boafeng&Retevis two-pin plug, where the audio out is on the small 2.5mm pin to a 3.5mm (1/8inch) plug for attaching 1/8 inch connectors to. But it would immediately go into transmit when I plugged in a stereo extension cable with nothing on the other end. SO even an open ended 1/8 inch plug will cause it to start transmitting.
I suppose it could depend on what type of earbuds you use. I tried a cheap Sony set and also an Apple pair, both with microphone of course. But it did the same on both.
The cables are amazing. They allow you to use your personal headphones (w/mic) on the Retevis radio. This allows you to use more comfortable earpieces with better sound quality (and noise reducing/cancelling headphones for louder environments like clubs). I bought one as a test unit, and the rest of the security staff and the owners of the club liked it so much we purchased several more.
We have used them with Samsung headphones, iPhone headphones, and multiple aftermarket headphones.
Great customer service, happy to see new products and improvements in 2 way radio communication. The only down side is having to hold the call answer to stop transmitting. Great product.

Wouldn't work for my radio and mic.
Works great with my retevis walkie. Construction is a little cheap though. Already starting to fall apart and expose wiring. I've had to super glue joints and use some rubber bands to hold things together. They have great customer service they sent a replacement at no charge. Thanks
Worked perfectly with the Baofeng radio to my I'm helmet earphones and microphone.
